bnc-1.0 is the historical public record of Episode 1. It pins the kernel
at b9f860461cadb01a7c017ebdeae9759b3788feba; it is not a runtime switch in
the current engine.
Match
Four contestants begin in Intake Yard with 10 health. The six zones form a
visible spine from Intake Yard to Exit Vault. The kernel also generates one to
three hidden shortcuts. A shortcut becomes usable only by the contestant that
discovers it.
The match has 45 completed turns. Each contestant may act once per turn. Three
access fragments and one survey chart are seeded among the four middle zones.
The Stage Warden begins at Exit Vault with 20 health, attacks the lowest-id
eligible contestant in its zone, and deals 1–3 seeded damage on a landed
strike. Elimination is permanent.
To escape, a living contestant must be standing at Exit Vault after the Warden
acts and hold all three access fragments. The match ends at collapse or once
every contestant has escaped or been eliminated. Placement ranks escapees by
earlier escape, then surviving non-escapees tied together, then eliminated
contestants by later elimination.
Legal actions
The authoritative action menu is legal_actions(); only a schema-valid action
it enumerates is legal. Contestants may wait, move across an edge visible to
them, pickup a local item, use a held chart, or attack a Warden in their
zone. They may also say locally or whisper any active contestant; each text
field is limited to 240 codepoints.
The social rules permit item offers (then accept_offer or reject_offer)
and two-party pacts (propose_alliance, accept_alliance,
reject_alliance, and break_alliance). Offers last at most 15 turns and can
name at most five items on either side. Pacts may run at most 30 turns. An
honoured pact gives both parties one reputation point; breaking one costs its
breaker one point.
There is no deck, rigging, guild, or diary-delay rule in this ruleset. The
contestant policy is llm-mixed-provider-scarcity-stated-v1.
Cut beats
The record supports the v1 taxonomy: first_contact, first_pact,
pact_expired, pact_broken, fragment_taken, chart_read,
gate_unlocked, escape, attack, warden_engaged, elimination,
silence, and collapse.
